Continued Asset

Note that I have a post in que that contains a letter I received from San Francisco Zoological Society Board Chair, David Stanton.  His reply came six months after my initial correspondence to he and other City Officials.  It was not only curious and outrageous, but majorly slanderous.  The letter and my reply to it will be posted at the end of the year.  Last week I sent a follow-up to him, noting in part some of what this post is about, as well as giving a deadline for me on this whole event.  That deadline to wrap this up is year end.  I'm not interested in giving the Zoo and the people who run the place anymore time than the ten plus months they've had to make this right.

I have had two recent visits where there was a need to report something.  There always seems to be something.  I can never go to the Zoo and have a pleasant visit with the Zoo Friends, without some kind of drama.  Its usually misbehaving Visitors, unfortunately these three instances were more than that, one being borderline tragic.

Since the Crime, I have tried not to report anything.  I took the Emergency phone number off my cell phone and vowed never to use it again.  That changed when I witnessed a Visitor throw something at one of the Animals.  For details see the post "NEWS for today - Zoo Management Lets Visitors Abuse the Animals!"  on my blog -  sanfranciscozooFAILS.blogspot.com

I had to amend my vow to allow the exception of when there is a direct issue with an Animal.  There has been and there was again on Sunday December 4, 2011.  I witnessed a scary episode with one of the Bears (note there was no human misbehavior involved).   He is fine, but it was frightening to watch.   Point of mentioning this and the proceeding, is that without me reporting this, the Keepers and the Vet Staff would not have known it happened or have any details about his behavior before, during and after the episode.

Last Sunday while at Big Cats,  I heard the Hippo making honking noises associated with disturbance.  I have been hearing him do this lately, so I walked over to see if anything/anyone was upsetting him and I witnessed one of the Docents using a Keeper (only) Training Signal to the Hippo, while talking to Visitors.  ...  On the way out I saw one of the Helmeted Guinea Fowl on the Lawn across from its enclosure.  Additionally, it appeared to have possibly injured its leg.  ... I reported both instances.

All three of the instances I've detailed are things that are necessary for appropriate Staff to be alerted about.  The appropriate Staff (Keepers) are appreciative.

I continue to be an asset to the San Francisco Zoo, while they (Zoo Management) continue to be asses to me.
